Hotelier's Voice – Thibault Catala, The Revenue Management Tech Stack
In this episode we speak with Thibault Catala of Catala Consulting, a revenue manager by trade with a background at IHG and Four Seasons, he talks us through his approach to developing the revenue management strategy starting with the tech stack. We talk about his choice of systems, and what he did at The Eccleston Square Hotel London , London. “Tech is one of the key elements in the hotel structure and if it’s done correctly they can improve productivity, gain stronger revenue and develop market share,” says Thibault. Thibault first begins with an audit and review of the existing tech stack to ensure they are fully optimised. There are three key pillars for the hotel, according to Thibault. Property Management System (PMS) which he uses Apaelo and Mews, Revenue Management System (RMS) for which he uses Atomize, Pace, Duetto, or IDEAs, and channel manager. We discuss how they come to procurement decisions; “No one solution fits all, it all depends on needs and requirements. It depends on the hotel type, they don’t have same budget, requirements and needs, however it’s a main shift for hotels to leave legacy, and chance to try different approaches with cloud-based systems.” Read full article.https://www.travelmarket.life/post/hotelier-s-voice-thibault-catala-the-revenue-management-tech-stack http://www.catalaconsulting.co.uk/

Hotelier's Voice - Michael Reynolds, Maximise Revenue changing PMS in 7 days
In this episode we speak with Michael Reynolds, a revenue and hotel tech consultant with Maximise Revenue who has worked with chains including Village hotels, easy hotels PLC as well as independent properties. For Michael it’s about moving away from legacy systems to maximise revenue, optimise system performance and processes and enable hotels to be more savvy. As part of his Procurement research, Michael said “following experience and having to research new systems in the past, I knew the main players but wanted to look at up and coming providers to see the opportunities. It was a tick box exercise, with one main criteria being an Open API, to continue linking more and more to it. We quickly discarded a few PMS for this reason. Then a quick demo, to see how easy it is to use and how quick to onboard. It was done during lockdown, so was a very lastminute idea and we knew we had to turn it around asap. In 6 weeks of lockdown we did this all remotely and completed the installation.” Read the full article

Understanding the Connected Trip and what it means for travel brands
There are a number of ways to describe the "connected trip" concept. The phrase has become a common one in recent years, as brands (Booking Holdings, in particular) and technology providers (Journera etc.) have attempted to pull together the various elements of a journey and apply some kind of cohesion to the process. This has taken the form of aligning products into a customer's booking path, or pushing the idea of sharing data between service providers - both with the idea that the customer will benefit in the long-term. Whatever definition is used, understanding how the connected trip can be applied to any model in the industry, large or small, is an important one to consider as the industry recovers from the coronavirus pandemic. In this interview, we speak to Ingenico's head of travel, Eric Liebman, about the definitions, use cases and how payments is a vital thread running through all parts of the process. Trailblazer 2.0 Webinar 1: Incremental revenue streams
For Boutique Hotel News: https://www.boutiquehotelnews.com/ For more Trailblazer Webinars: https://www.boutiquehotelnews.com/events/boutique-hotel-trailblazer-webinars With hotel rooms likely to take longer to recover from the crisis, what can hoteliers do to develop meaningful new sources of revenue to support business during traditionally quieter months. Our contributors delved into a range of key themes including subscription models, data analytics and experiences and discuss how to innovate in these challenging times: Trailblazers joining: Ali Powell, MD, Commercial Acceleration James Harrabin, CEO, Travlet Tim Gjonbalic, founder, Butler Hospitality David Kallery, president, Inspirato Unfortunately there were connection issues with James Harrabin CEO at Travlet, so Eloise Hanson caught up with him after the webinar to ask him some questions about the leisure traveller and the role of digital in future travel: What are your thoughts on the future leisure customer; what do they look like and what’s going to change? How can hotels better target the emerging leisure guest? Where are the opportunities to upsell? UK Chancellor of the Exchequer, Rishi Sunak, recently talked about a wealthy middle-class cohort whose jobs have been largely unaffected and have saved significant wealth in the pandemic. When the vaccine is fully rolled out, people in this category across the world will have significant pent up demand to unleash on leisure tourism. This traveller will be significantly more digitally savvy. Even the stereotypically older audience normally embracing offline services pre-covid are now ordering from Amazon and using QR codes in their local restaurant. This behaviour will lead to similar expectations of a high quality digital experience when they travel. To service these leisure tourists effectively, you need to understand what they want to do on their trip and herein lies a significant revenue opportunity for hotels. In 2019 the global attractions market was worth $170bn and hotels are in a unique position to recommend and sell digital attraction tickets to their guests. We offer this capability at Travlet as part of our Upsell platform. In the short term while attractions are closed, there are ample opportunities for upsells in your hotel including room upgrades, romantic package, early check-in, F&B upsell. But our most popular up-sell is still tried and tested... breakfast! How can technology retain loyal customers? When travel resumes, what role will digital play? Data is going to play an even more pivotal part in the future, especially in understanding the booking journey. Data from Google shows that an average leisure trip covers over 400 pages of web content. This represents two hours researching and booking a flight, three hours a hotel and a whopping six hours booking what you're going to do. What we do at Travlet is use guest data to predict what travellers are most likely to want to do so they have a fantastic experience. At the moment we’re building a fully predictive booking engine so we can immediately curate, recommend and give the option for your guests to book theatre tickets based on the dates they are travelling and what they are most likely to enjoy. In tumultuous times it's best to be bold and try new things. Many of our customers are having success with Couples and Romantic Packages which they've never tried before. We saw one hotel triple up-sells through offering a DIY cocktail experience.
